Who We Are

Utah Hills Restoration is a Provo-based sewer backup cleanup company specializing exclusively in Category 3 sewage events — the most hazardous class of water damage defined by the IICRC S500 standard. We do not offer general contracting, painting, or unrelated restoration services. Sewer backup cleanup is our only practice.

We are based at 356 N 100 W St, Provo, Utah 84601, and serve all of Utah County with a 1–3 hour response time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is no extra charge for nights, weekends, or holidays.

Our Certifications

Every job is led by an IICRC-certified technician. IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) sets the published standards for water damage restoration — S500 for water damage and S520 for microbial remediation — used by insurance carriers, building inspectors, and regulators throughout the United States.

How Our Model Works

Utah Hills Restoration operates as a referral and coordination platform for sewer backup cleanup in Provo and Utah County. When you call, we dispatch an IICRC-certified crew to your location. The crew holds current WRT and AMRT certification. Written estimates are provided before any work begins. Insurance documentation — pre-demo photos, moisture readings, biohazard disposal manifests, and drying logs — is provided throughout the job.

We do not use subcontractors without certification. Every job dispatched through Utah Hills Restoration follows IICRC S500 and S520 protocol from arrival through clearance testing.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not dry Category 3 sewage in place. IICRC S500 requires removal of all porous materials in contact with Category 3 water.
  • We do not mask odors. Persistent sewage smell after cleanup means contamination remains.
  • We do not begin work without a written estimate.
  • We do not add charges after work begins without your authorization.

Service Area

Primary service area: Provo, Utah (84601, 84602, 84604, 84606) and every city and town in Utah County. We also serve Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Magna, Midvale, West Jordan, South Jordan, Sandy, Riverton, Draper, and Herriman with the same 1–3 hour emergency response.

Why We Specialize in Category 3 Only

General restoration companies handle flood damage, fire damage, mold, and sewage. Spreading across those categories means their technicians are generalists — they clean sewage a few times a month between other jobs. We clean sewage every day. IICRC S500 Category 3 protocol is our only protocol. Our crew knows the containment sequence, the PPE requirements, the antimicrobial contact times, and the biohazard disposal manifesting process because that is the only work we do.

This matters most when your insurance adjuster reviews the claim file. Category 3 claims are scrutinized heavily because of the potential for under-scoped remediation. An adjuster reviewing a file from a generalist contractor looks for protocol gaps. A file from an AMRT-certified specialist — with step-by-step documentation, clearance test results, and biohazard manifests — closes faster and with fewer disputes.

What Happens on Every Job

Every call to (877) 394-0234 follows the same sequence regardless of time of day or size of the event:

  1. Dispatch confirmation within 5 minutes. You reach a live person every time. No voicemail, no call center, no form submission.
  2. Crew on site in 1–3 hours. Provo and Utah County standard. Eagle Mountain and Cedar Valley are longer — we quote arrival times based on the actual drive.
  3. Source identification on arrival. Before one piece of equipment is unloaded, the crew identifies whether the event is Category 3 sewage, Category 2 groundwater, or a combination. The wrong protocol on the wrong event type costs you money and may void your insurance claim.
  4. Written scope before work begins. The cost estimate is presented in writing with photographs before any demolition starts. You authorize each phase.
  5. Continuous insurance documentation. Pre-demo condition photos, moisture meter readings at every test point, biohazard disposal manifests, and drying logs — all compiled into a single organized claim file for your insurance carrier.
  6. Written clearance before close. No job is complete until clearance testing confirms contamination has been eliminated. You receive a written clearance document before our equipment leaves your property.

Utah County Service Specifics

Provo and Utah County present specific infrastructure challenges we have seen repeatedly: clay and cast iron laterals in pre-1980 Joaquin and Riverside homes that are past their functional lifespan; Utah Lake water table fluctuation in West Provo and Vineyard causing groundwater intrusion misidentified as sewage backup; Wasatch snowmelt I/I surges in March and April that overwhelm Provo's older sanitary sewer mains; and bentonite desert clay in Eagle Mountain and Cedar Valley that stresses long laterals (some exceeding 150 feet) through soil heave and contraction.

We have responded to events in all of these conditions. The infrastructure knowledge affects how we scope the job on arrival — not as a sales tactic, but because accurate scoping on day one avoids costly supplements and insurance disputes on day fifteen.

Insurance Billing

Utah Hills Restoration bills insurance carriers directly for Category 3 claims with active endorsements. We work with the major Utah homeowners insurers — State Farm, Farmers, USAA, Allstate, Liberty Mutual, and others. Our claim documentation follows the format adjusters expect: Xactimate-compatible line items where required, moisture logs in IICRC format, pre/post remediation photos with time stamps, and biohazard manifesting records.

If you do not have a sewer backup endorsement on your HO-3 policy, we provide the same documentation — it is required if you want to add coverage retroactively or dispute a denial. A standard Utah HO-3 endorsement costs $40–$250 per year and provides $5,000–$25,000 in coverage (Insurance Information Institute, 2026). If you experienced a backup without one, your agent can add it at the next renewal.
